In the Spirit of Tradition
Old and New Classic Yachts
By Dana Jinkins and Jill Bobrow
The term “classic yachts” invokes varnished mahogany, sleek racing boats with long bowsprits, impeccable sheer lines and tiny transoms, as well as thoughtfully designed cruising sailboats and motoryachts with teak decks and sparkling brass. Featured in this volume are profiles of 48 yachts, many designed by the renowned greats such as the Herreshoffs, Burgess, Fife, Mylne, Nicholson, Alden and Sparkman & Stevens. Also included are some new yachts that have been either built or designed in the “classic” style—in the spirit of tradition.
Today the resurgence of interest in these yachts can be witnessed at classic yacht regattas that occur annually around the world. This book includes images from events such as Antigua Classic Week, Cannes Regate Royale, and Monaco Classic Week.
